after several appearances on the label, kareem comes up trumps again with an excellent first solo single release backed by a wonderful remix from white doyen oskar offermann himself.how low can you go the opener track acts as a discreet, structured, driving and some how dubby house tune that keeps a nice layer of grit beneath the fingernails. its loopy character imparts the feeling of virtually remaining unchanged but it nevertheless staidly evolves within its sonic borders and imparts a sensual quality of all-enveloping warmth. oskar offermanns interpretation of how low can you go introduces skipping melodies that are transmitted as choppy discoesque pulses and rhythmic modulated bass sounds are the preferred form of punctuation. indeed the remix is intended to be a dj tool, but like all of oskar offermanns recent house works, it builds smoothly as though every element was simply waiting in the wings to make its appearance at the proper moment, and – just before it finishes up – sounds like it could go on forever.

emerging elements is adepths new ep of diverse, quality electronic music produced by talented dutch artists. its adepth audios seventh release and showcases the work of four of these artists and producers. mila by dan9er is reminiscent of classic chicago house, with its striking, angular bassline. the track is an homage to mila. dan grains in a beautiful world is a track from another dimension—expansive and melodic, incorporating sounds which suggest detroit-inspired music from mid-90s amsterdam. the luxuriant sound of true indentity is relaxing techno for the after hours, again proving rob belleville is one of the most detroit-inspired talents of the netherlands. détaché is a young producer determined to record fresh sounds influenced by detroit, deep house and modern techno. shapes & shadows is his most recent work, and features great bass variations and warm, relaxing synthesiser chords.

despite the doors being closed on dissident in 2009, former boss andy blake has been anything but quiet, with his world unknown imprint bringing the acid and ebm sounds of his night of the same name to the world. now hes started another label, in plain sight, which looks set to bring more esoteric house sounds to our ears, with the first release coming from the hitherto unknown youngtee. the first track, >dr chocolate< fuses the kind of oddball low-slung sounds and spoken-word samples that in flagranti have been masters of for years, with jazzy keys and 808 cowbells which hint at a subtle chicago influence. the classic house influence continues of >perfect model<, which combines misty chords with an 80s pop groove, falsetto vocal sample and synth jam solo which comes across as alternate universe michael jackson track. as youd expect from a label curated by blake, its house music, but not quite as you know it.

jay shepheards retrofit imprint reaches its seventh release with this fine ep of old school sounds with an undeniably modern feel. >hefty done me right< begins proceedings with a house-disco hybrid sporting a particularly meaty analogue bassline, 80s electro vocal samples and shimmering pop synths, while >the electric model< marries a distinctly kraftwerk-esque motorik vibe with balearic disco sweeps and horns. on the flip, >one night in puzon< opens with a tense rising string line, broken with a crystalline piano mosaic and deep squelching bass. finally, tw closes proceedings with his own dub take on >hefty done me right<, amping up the electro feel of the original with an mpc cut-up style reworking filled with heavy vocal samples and rolling piano stabs, transplanting the original from its italian roots to 80s harlem.

we are proud to release the first ep from the new fluxion album on echocord. this work is about his travels in music. the sounds, influences and aesthetic of his actual travels, expectation-journey-destination, alongside the music influences deriving from them. through his prism those sounds, pictures, travels, emotions left traces of new directions, of future journeys to take. fluxion captured the motion in his travels with a different feeling each time. on no man is an island with the unreleased dennis brown vocal version ,an influential song, with a clear message. desert nights a kind of desert rock meeting dub on a road movie. butiama an actual place, where variations and consistency in rhythm is within people s dna. this ep also includes a flowing rmx by our good friend thomas fehlmann. after a decade in the field of dub, techno, ambient, fluxion opens the horizon with music that cannot fall under one specific territory.

after i heard enol s beautiful track white mango on initial cut, i felt the need to reach out. i had a long and friendly conversation with matthieu (enola) about our musical background and agreed on the fact that we both have a weakness for pop music and early detroit techno, and quickly came to the conclusion that something with a little pop would be perfect for the label. enola came to us with >slow motion< featuring the vocals of will caulfield. its something different for enola, and something different for us, deep techno pop, perfect for 5am! enola is the new project of french dj matthieu monnin, who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout. matthieu now works on his own, finding his niche in melodious techno, taking inspiration from the sounds of the nineties. he has done work with the likes of rodriguez jr, anoraak, and arno gonzalez, and now he joins correspondant with >slow motion<. on the flip side, nhar, the other half of correspondant turns the darkness into light with for me, his best remix to date. if the original is for 5am, nhars remix is for 5pm, when the sun still shines and its warmth still remains.

mika vainio, currently based in berlin, was one half of the minimal electronic duo pan sonic from finland, (the other half was ilpo väisänen). before starting pan sonic in beginning of the 90 s mika vainio has played electronics and drums as part of the early finnish industrial and noise scene. his solo works, under his own name and under aliases like Ø, are known for their analogue warmth and electronic harshness. be it abstract drone works or minimal avant techno, vainio is always creating unique, physical sounds.

being a musical vagabond involves quite some illustrious stories and quite some adventures. four of those are captured on this exciting record. in his housey remix of >b1000<, andre kronert tells about an acoustic sunrise. based on driving sub-basses, he piles up layers of harmonic pad sounds and light melodies. the minimal plot of the original version by kollektiv ost roams twilight sceneries and explores single sounds and effects. schaeufler & zovsky give insight into a both relaxed and go-getting attitude towards life. their contribution >leafs< combines dreamy melodies with very lively and functional rhythms. in his own version of this acoustic tale, mollono.bass concentrates on a catchy groove and creates a very inspiring, deep and perfidious hypnotic atmosphere.

mowar has reached its 10th release! this release heads into a darker direction with four solid and mental techno movers. searle is a new name to join the mowar ranks, but his sounds are pure, raw with a pinch of dark ambience. the record opens with the title track mind transfer, which brings a raw oldskool 808 feel layered with hypnotic basic channel-like chords and a subtle but most effective acid line. modern love s claro intellecto on remix duty turns the track into a slow moving warehouse monster, throbbing its way to a drugged chicago-esque jacking feel yet retaining the original darkness of mind transfer. on the flipside succubus lives up to its ominous title. this track is a dark hypnotic affair with fierce kickdrums piercing through an obscure sound palette of eerie pads and deep basses. razor sharp modulated noise then invades the whole thing turning the track into a punishing dark workout. finally unauthorized brings a more edgy and experimental sound to the whole, starting of with a dubby bassline and graveyard shift pads, but once the piercing hi-hats kick in, the track shifts to straightforward almost cristian vogel-like mental techno. by the way… searle is a new moniker of mowar frontman franco cangelli.

biscuit factory records presents the laxx ep, the debut release from oxford based producer jamie churchill, aka laxx. the ep features three tracks that highlight why laxx is unquestionably going to be an artist to look out for in the future. this is another taste of laxx’s ability to produce classic dubstep sounding tracks, twisted with his unique and futuristic sounds.

for our third instalment on mars recordings weve decided to go for transparent green vinyl! this has nothing to do with aliens, we wouldnt be that obvious, but its the colour chosen by the artists and we think it looks like another great mars package. musically, well edward oberon & paul t have conjured up 2 awesome tracks. >love is< is absolutely sublime with its warm bass line and delicate sounds to the breakdown, while keeping the drums nice and punchy, a great tune to roll out. >absolute< harks back to the deep sounds of old good looking by the likes of big bud or tayla. ridiculous sub-lo bass and deep strings, this is how mars do things and we feel its another quality 12 inch where the music & the packaging matter.

7 year old spaniard alberto pascual is the latest techno talent to be welcomed into the plus 8 fold with vertigo, his debut ep for the label. a skilled dj and live performer, pascual has been producing since 2004, with over 30 releases to his name, all of which pursue a direct and powerful techno style. its much the same on vertigo, the title track of this ep which hits loopy depths immediately. dramatic fx, crunchy hats and tension mounting hisses fill out the spaces between the beats, but the militant, marching groove never wavers. truchas rancias is more reserved: economical arrangements characterise the techno eeriness this time, forever hinting something is just around the corner but never quite showing you. final vinyl cut continuous learning is more unhinged, with swirling synths, dripping water sounds and shadowy voice sounds all coming together like classic plus 8 weaponry.
